Air Emissions

Adzhip Karachaganak B.V. controls emissions of air pollutants in accordance with the parameters specified in the Environmental Impact Permit. The company keeps an eye on industrial emissions to ensure compliance with standards. At the Adzhip Karachaganak B.V. facilities, the biggest sources of air emissions are the flaring of sour gas and formation fluid contamination mixtures, fuel gas in turbines, furnaces, and boilers, and diesel fuel in diesel generator units. The primary combustion products are nitrogen oxides, carbon oxides, and sulfur dioxides. Adzhip Karachaganak B.V.’s direct greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are regulated within the parameters of the existing national emissions quota trading system.

Gas Flaring

Reducing the amounts of gas flaring is still one of Adzhip Karachaganak B.V.’s principal objectives. The entire amount of gas flared in 2022 was 0.07 percent (2021: 0.07 percent) of the total volume of gas generated, or 0.42 tons per thousand tons of hydrocarbons produced. According to the IOGP 2021 Report, a low flaring emission rate as a result of flaring attests to strong operational performance in comparison to the global industrial average rate of 8 tonnes per thousand tonnes and the European average rate of 2.4 tonnes per thousand tonnes. As a result, Karachaganak becomes Kazakhstan’s top oil and gas condensate field in terms of gas production and validates the extremely high level of Adzhip Karachaganak B.V. for this indicator among international and European oil and gas producers.

Gas Utilization

Adzhip Karachaganak B.V. develops and approves the programs for sour gas processing development with regulatory bodies in compliance with legal requirements. The gas utilization rate of Adzhip Karachaganak B.V. in 2022 was 99.93% (compared to 99.94% in 2021). In accordance with the 2022 Associated Gas Processing Development Programme, the RoQ Authority authorized a performance objective of 99.82 %.

Adzhip Karachaganak B.V.’s direct greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are regulated within the parameters of the existing national emissions quota trading system. Based on particular emissions indicators (benchmarks), Adzhip Karachaganak B.V. has been granted quotas for the 2022 greenhouse gas emissions (CO2) in the amount of 2,334,396 tons. With 1,828,569 tons of CO2 emitted in 2022, real emissions accounted for 78% of the quota. Methane (ΡH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), and carbon dioxide (C\2) are the three GHG emissions that are assessed.
