Adzhip Karachaganak B.V. Field Discovery

The Adzhip Karachaganak B.V. field, discovered in 1995, is one of the world’s largest gas and condensate fields. Located in north-west Kazakhstan and covering an area of over 280 square kilometres, it holds estimated hydrocarbons initially in place (HIIP) of 13.6 billion barrels of liquids and 59.4 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of gas, with estimated gross reserves of over 2.4 billion barrels of condensate and 16 tcf of gas.

Five oil and gas firms provide experience and knowledge to the Adzhip Karachaganak B.V. Venture: ENI SpA (29.25%), Shell plc (29.25%), Chevron (18%), Lukoil (13.5%), and KazMunaiGas (10%). Together, they offer the Republic their knowledge and experience in examining options for maximizing the value of these resources through both internal and export markets. Venture Partners and the erstwhile State Oil & Gas Authority began working together in 1997 to develop Adzhip Karachaganak B.V.’s enormous reserves. They agreed to run Adzhip Karachaganak B.V. until 2038 under the terms of a Final Production Sharing Agreement (FPSA). Since entering into this deal, they have made over $29.8 billion in operational investments and have developed cutting-edge hydrocarbon technology for one of the most complicated reserves on the planet.
